(tw diet talk)
People trying to be thin are 100% being sucked into the idea that people are better off being skinny. You want to know why? Because your statements on the male brain (and human brains, really) are not accurate. There is no one beauty ideal that is etched into people’s minds the world over. It is society that does the etching because society benefits from insecurity; the diet industry is one of the largest in the United States.
Anyone who seeks to become skinny rather than just being healthy, is buying into the idea that skinny is better. If one were to lose weight outside of all other factors (for example, if someone were to have liposuction done,) that wouldn’t make that person healthier or better. If someone wants to be healthy, great for them. If losing weight is a side effect of that and they are fine with that, great for them.
But I have said this multiple times now. Beauty ideals are societal constructs. Lots of very well off people benefit from your belief that thin is sexy and fat is not. The only reason you have these beliefs is because they have been (to use your terminology) engraved into your brain from the minute you popped into the world and had any sort of comprehension of what was around you.
Not everyone who is trying to be healthy is buying into some harmful social norm, but believe me, everyone who is just trying to be skinny and is only interested in losing weight because of aesthetic reasons, is.
I hope that clears that up.
